TASIS - The American School In England TASIS - The American School In England

English-as-an-Additional-Language at Upper School

Situated at the center of the campus, the English-as-an-Additional Language (EAL) department is an integral part of the TASIS England Upper School.

The overall aim of the EAL Program in the Upper School is to enable every international student to graduate fluent in English and prepared to excel at university and in their chosen professions. EAL students will be placed in International Section courses and the EAL course appropriate to their grade and English ability, as determined by the English placement tests.

Each year, graduating international students go on to study at prestigious universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, and their own home countries. Our EAL teachers pride themselves on the secure, family environment they strive to create within the International Center. Students who join our program will not only grow academically, they will also learn about themselves and the cultures of others. They will be stretched and challenged and, ultimately, enriched in many ways.

The TASIS England EAL Program

The EAL Program provides a developmentally appropriate language education that enables students to gain maximum access to the school curriculum and prepare them for success in the mainstream classroom.

As an associate member of the WIDA International School Consortium, the EAL Program leverages the linguistic, cultural, experiential, and social and emotional assets that its English Language Learners possess to help support learning and academic advancement across the whole school.

The EAL Program has dedicated teachers that support students in Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. EAL profiles and Language plans are created to help teachers support English Language Learners throughout their learning journey at TASIS.
