International correspondent and current TASIS England parent, Frank Langfitt, delivered the Commencement address for the School's 41st annual ceremony on Saturday, June 10. Mr. Langfitt covers stories from the United Kingdom, Ireland, and elsewhere in Europe for National Public Radio (NPR), a public non-profit media agency in the United States. As the National Public Radio correspondent in London, Mr. Langfitt beautifully spoke to our graduates to help them understand the world they are entering. Before serving as the London correspondent, Mr. Langfitt spent five years as an NPR correspondent covering China. While based in Shanghai, he drove a free taxi around the city for a series on a changing China as seen through the eyes of ordinary people. In 2008, Mr. Langfitt's coverage of the Beijing Olympics garnered an Edward R. Murrow Award for sports reporting. Mr. Langfitt is a graduate of Princeton University and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. In sending off the Class of 2017, Mr. Langfitt joined recent TASIS England Commencement speakers Lyle Rigg, Philip Hammond PC MP, and Shelby Coffey III, all of whom demonstrate unwavering commitment in their respective fields. About NPR The mission of NPR is to work in partnership with Member Stations to create a more informed public — one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas, and cultures. In the organization's 2014 Strategic Plan the Strategic Aspiration states: "We will be the model for high-quality journalism in the 21st century, strengthening the cultural, civic and social fabric of our democracy. We will build on our heritage as reporters and storytellers, on our intimate relationship with audiences, and on our capacity for innovation in order to create a space where audiences congregate, connect and contribute to a shared understanding of the wider world. We strive to feed the mind and satisfy the soul."
