Lower School Students Harvest Pumpkins from the Fleming Garden
Posted 14/10/2014 03:43PM

This week, lower school students have been visiting the Fleming Garden to pick a pumpkin for their classroom.

Each group gathered around the pumpkin patch with Environmental Education teacher, Dr. Lander, who instructed them about different varieties of pumpkins and squash that are grown in the garden. Students were particularly excited to learn about the green and pink pumpkin—which have luminous pink seeds at the center!

The giant vegetable will be used in a variety of ways to help students learn about vegetables grown in Fall, seeds, the difference in textures, senses (taste, smell, touch), and which recipes use pumpkins, including pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving!
