News from TASIS England
As part of the Visiting Artist Program, TASIS England welcomed Carolyn Genders to campus this week to open an exhibition of her work in the Fleming Gallery.
This evening, Ms. Genders will attend an opening reception for the TASIS community, and a selection of her work will be on display until 14th December. Ms. Genders, a teacher at West Dean College, has many collections displayed around the country and has published two books. Her exhibition in the Fleming Gallery features a range of mediums, including ceramics, paintings, and sketchbooks, as well as other intricate pieces. All of her work integrates her interest in the three-dimensionality of form and how it is visually altered by the addition of surface, texture, and pattern.
Head of Art Mr. Smalley will encourage students to ask questions in workshops and discussions with the artist during her weeklong visit. Young students will learn news skills in ceramic workshops and be encouraged to use their imaginations to create unique pieces of ceramic art. Upper school students will learn about the thought process behind each piece, as Ms. Genders guides them through the exhibition, and they will explore the theme of finding inspiration from nature.
