Drama at TASIS

All the world's a stage, and at TASIS, education occurs not only in the classroom, but also in production opportunities.

Theatre at TASIS England

Our vision is to see every student at TASIS England grow in their enjoyment and appreciation for theatre. Theatre produces confidence, creativity and collaboration like no other art form does, which is why it is a cherished part of our curriculum from fourth grade. Through engaging classes, imaginative study and energetic theatre productions our students experience the exhilaration and enlightenment that only theatre can bring, whether on stage, behind the scenes or purely as part of the audience.

The Theatre Department at TASIS The American International School in England offers students the opportunity to study the craft of acting and theatre production through our academic courses, and, from the Middle School upwards it offers extracurricular involvement via one of four major productions performed each year. In addition, we have a healthy technical theatre program and our department led performances are run entirely by students. Recent productions include The Addams Family, The Wind in the Willows, The 39 Steps, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Government Inspector, Grease, Our Town and Aladdin Jr.

Lower School

Drama is a treasured part of the Lower School curriculum, allowing the oldest Lower School students to enjoy early formative experiences of performing. This culminates in Fourth Grade Theatre Night each January.

Middle School

All fifth and sixth grade students participate in Theatre and work together to perform a grade level performance in the Fleming Theatre, building confidence and competence on and off the stage. Seventh- and eighth-grade students can take Theatre as an elective subject exploring diverse disciplines such as shadow puppetry, mask and physical comedy and have the opportunity to perform in extra curricular productions such as the Middle School Musical and eighth graders can audition for the End of Year Play.

Upper School

There is a wealth of opportunities for Upper School students to study and enjoy theatre. Freshmen and sophomore students may elect ‘Acting 1’ and ‘Acting 2’ as part of their studies. Juniors have the opportunity to choose IB Theatre, a deeply enriching course exploring the artistic voice of each student through world theatre traditions, theatre practitioners, and devised theatre. This course also involves attending an ISTA course working with renowned theatre practitioners from around the world. All upper school students can audition for the Upper School Play and Upper School Musical, and ninth and tenth graders can audition for the End-of-Year Play.
