Children’s author, Betty Birney, writer of the According to Humphrey book series Skyped in from Los Angeles for an interview with our Lower School students this week.
Students have been reading the Humphrey book series both at home for summer reading projects and with Lower School Librarian, Mr. Kominsky. On Monday, November 23, everyone gathered in The Fleming Theatre in front of a large projector and microphone, ready to connect with the famous author over Skype. The fourth grade TASIS Turtle TV crew, under direction of Mr. Nixon, made sure the technical side of the evening went smoothly.
Before the event, classes were asked to carefully think about what questions they would like to ask Betty so that both the students and author could engage in an informative conversation. Once live on-air, enthusiastic students lined up ready to ask their carefully selected questions for the beloved author of over fifty titles. Which included:
What inspired you to write about Humphrey?
How long have you been an author?
Do you ever feel pressure to release a book that might let your readers down?
Do you ever run out of ideas?
Students will continue to read Betty’s collection of books, which are available in the Lower School Library.
