First grade students have been developing their reading fluency for the past few weeks. To celebrate their success, their teachers issued Reading, Recommendation, and Fluency Awards.
To prepare for the awards, students worked on reading rate, accuracy, punctuation and expression to develop their fluency. Each child chose a book to practice with in class and at home and wrote a recommendation for the book.
Ms. Strohschein and Ms. Kotowicz filmed students while they read a short passage from their chosen book and shared their recommendations. The children’s enthusiasm expressed their passion for reading and learning new ideas and facts from the books. At the RRF Awards, the video was displayed for parents, and gold stars were presented to the children to commend them for their reading skills.
