Upper School Travel Week

October is a month of education through travel at TASIS England. It is by extending learning beyond the classroom and by drawing on the cultural riches of Europe, that a TASIS education becomes truly distinctive and enables our students to gain life skills and first-hand perspective, which would not be possible through classroom instruction alone.

For October Travel Week, we organize different trips which are assigned by grade level. We endeavor to offer a healthy balance between traditional sightseeing and hands-on, activity-based experiences for our students on each trip.

Ninth Grade

Ninth grade students can experience an exciting adventure in Scotland, starting in Glasgow which is a port city on the River Clyde in Scotland's western Lowlands. Before traveling to the Scottish highlands, a mountainous region encompassing northwest Scotland, the tour finishes in Edinburgh which is Scotland's compact, hilly capital.

Ninth Grade DofE

Duke of Edinburgh students are expected to attend this arranged expedition in the Brecon Beacons, Wales. This part of the UK is famed for its rugged natural beauty and is widely used by adventurers, the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and the British Army as training ground for honing outdoor skills.

Participants take part in abseiling, rope, and climbing activities, as well as hiking, map reading, and making camp. The participants also cook their own meal one evening, and practice sleeping in a tent one night.

Tenth Grade

Tenth grade students have the opportunity to visit the charming and unique country of Norway. Norway is a Scandinavian country encompassing mountains, glaciers and deep coastal fjords. Oslo, the capital, is a city of green spaces and museums. Bergen, with colorful wooden houses, is the gateway to the dramatic Sognefjord.

Eleventh Grade

Eleventh grade students can choose to venture to the rural Dordogne region of France or explore the bustling city of Berlin, Germany.

Dordogne, located in southwest France, is set between the Loire Valley and Pyrenees mountain range. The town of Périgueux is home to the Cathedrale St-Front, with its five domes, and the Vesunna Museum.

Berlin, Germany’s capital, dates to the 13th century. Divided during the Cold War, its 18th-century Brandenburg Gate has become a symbol of reunification. The city's also known for its art scene and modern landmarks like the gold-colored, swoop-roofed Berliner Philharmonie, built in 1963.

Twelfth Grade

Twelfth grade students are provided the possibility of experiencing Portugal's Mediterranean charm in Lisbon, Portugal. Views of the coastal capital city encompass iconic pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays five centuries of decorative ceramic tiles.
