Upper School teacher Mr. Liam Canny recognized with Outstanding Educator Award

We are delighted to announce that Mr. Canny, AP/IB Economics teacher, has been selected for the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator Award!

Mr. Canny was nominated by TASIS England's Class of 2020 valedictorian Martina Insulla, who is currently in her freshman year studying economics in the world-famous University of Chicago's economics department. Mr. Canny told us, "I am absolutely delighted to have been nominated for this award by one of my former students, Martina, and am thrilled that she has gone on to pursue her passion for economics."

This prestigious award has existed for more than three decades and honors "Outstanding Educators who shape young minds in meaningful ways—thoughtfully approaching instruction, sharing an infectious love for learning, and caring for students both inside and outside of the classroom." They inspire their students by "going beyond everyday teaching and leaving an impression that is carried over a lifetime."

Students from the newly admitted UChicago Class of 2024 were asked to reflect on their time in school and nominate an educator whose guidance has helped them along the path toward intellectual growth. Thousands of votes were received from students in recognition of educators who positively impacted their lives. A virtual event will be held on Wednesday, October 21, to celebrate this year's winners.

Well done to Mr. Canny for playing his part in making a real difference to his students and helping them progress with their learning journey.
