Success at the MUN Conference Barcelona

Eleven students, joined by Mr. Hughes and Mrs. Aguais, traveled to Spain to take part in the annual Barcelona Model United Nations Conference (BIMUN), sponsored by the prestigious ESADE institution.

During the conference, students took the role of UN delegates and debated current events such as women’s access to sport, terrorism, and the current conflict in Ukraine. While debating, students attempted to find solutions for these global problems that are practical and ethical and which worked to reduce conflict.

The program of events spanned three action-packed three days. The sessions were arduous but fun, with TASIS delegates being recognized for their excellent preparation and knowledge. On the final day, a representative from NATO joined the general assembly to speak about the Russian/Ukrainian conflict and give some insights and perspectives on the events there.

Two of our students, Thomas and Liam, were voted "best delegate" in their respective committees, while George, Hailey, and Sophie were given special or honorable mentions by the chairs and the organizers. The entire TASIS team, including Ariadna, Mariana, Kiera, Ashley, Helena, and  Aleksandar, enjoyed the opportunity to participate in such a dynamic event.

Over 350 participants from over 15 countries and 22 different schools attended this year's BIMUN ESADE. The host institution stated, "We were absolutely delighted to have such a record-breaking year and to be able to host all of the participants in ESADE and EISB's spectacular facilities."

For most of the students, this was their first full conference. Their months of hard work and preparation clearly showed, with TASIS students dominating the awards. Congratulations to the entire team!
