Student Club Members Offer Tea and Friendship

For the last 15 years, TASIS students participating in Thorpe Community Link have extended a friendly hand to some of the older residents of Thorpe by hosting regular afternoon teas on the TASIS campus.

The good company, conversation, and entertainment provided by the students were always enjoyed as much as the hot “cuppa” and homemade treats. The group was keen not to let the many restrictions in place this year interfere with their gesture of support to the local community, so a new plan was hatched.

In October, Elisenda, Azita, and Eleanor created beautiful hand-painted cards on which they could write individual messages to our neighbors. Mrs. Gretel Veryard-Arcay and Mrs. Uta Reinikainen provided some delicious homemade treats and they were joined by Mrs. Sharon Hudgens as they filled the boxes, adding assorted teas and tying the gifts up with green ribbon. The team of three then divided up the cheerful-looking parcels for hand delivery around the village.

Our neighbors' delight was evident in the notes they sent in response:
“We very much enjoyed the assortment of teas (on different days!) with the goodies in the boxes!”
“I was delighted to receive your pretty card together with the delicious sandwiches and biscuits. It is so kind of you to think of us. … I do miss our visits to TASIS…”
“Thanks to TASIS for their thoughts for the oldies in the village.”
