On Saturday, June 11, the 98 members of the Class of 2016 gathered on TASIS England's south campus for the 39th Commencement Ceremony. Head of School, Dr. Mindy Hong, greeted the audience of students, faculty, families, and friends before introducing Commencement speaker Mr. Lyle D. Rigg, Headmaster, TASIS The American School in Switzerland.

Ten Advanced Placement Chemistry students planned ten experiments to present to second grade for their post-AP exam project. These included Food Coloring Races, Color Changing Solution, Borax Slime, a Tea Bag Rocket, and a Burning Gummy Bear Experiment.

Eighteen TASIS Upper School students, supervised by TASIS faculty members Mrs. Jordy, Mr. Holdham, and Mr. Shaw, braved heavy rains and almost freezing temperatures in April to complete their Bronze or Silver Assessed Expeditions for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

May Fair, TASIS England's annual springtime tradition, took place on Saturday, May 14, and was filled with sunshine, laughter, and entertainment. The TASIS community enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment from Lower, Middle, and Upper School students and an opportunity to shop a variety of goods from a large range of vendors. From Maypole dances to musical performances (and a very popular dunk tank), the array of student-run booths, games, and activities made for an eventful celebration.

The annual Middle School Speech Contest Final took place on Wednesday, May 18, in the Fleming Theatre. Thirteen finalists – four each from Grades 6 and 7 and five from Grade 8 – participated in the event, delivering speeches 3 minutes in length following various topics. TASIS England's Headmaster, Dr. Mindy Hong, served as a judge in the competition and described the presentations as polished and impressive.

The TASIS England yearbook staff has been recognized by Balfour Yearbooks for capturing the moments of the year in words and pictures. The TASIS England yearbook is recognized in the 2016 Yearbook Yearbook, an annual collection of superior student work. The yearbook adviser is Carolyn Norris.

TASIS England introduced a redesigned Royals mascot, which was selected by the student body after a weeklong voting process. Consistent with the look and feel of the School's branding, the new mascot comes with established graphic identity guidelines, which will be used for merchandise in the TPA Spirit Store.

For our most recent guest, esteemed historian Dr. Bettany Hughes, "History is the study of humanity, of life. It is not the study of death." The award-winning historian, author, and broadcaster visited TASIS England on April 16, and shared with students her passion for ancient and medieval history and culture. After recently writing and presenting a new landmark BBC series on Socrates, Buddah, and Confucius, Bettany has set her sights on a new series focusing on the classical influences on Freud, Nietzsche, and Marx.

Physics teacher Scott Dudley accompanied a team of three TASIS upper school students to the University of Maryland in July. There, the group presented posters depicting their findings on two projects to the American Association of Physics Teachers at their Summer Meeting 2015.

Eight TASIS England upper school students travelled to Luxembourg for the 2016 European Global Issues Network (GIN) Conference, held on March 17-19. Organized by the International School of Luxembourg and hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, the conference focused on the theme "Caring For Humanity, Our Duty."

The Sing-Off champions, the Vanderbilt Melodores, performed exclusively for TASIS England students as part of their European tour this week. The all-male a capella group entertained students in Lower and Upper School with a selection of hit pop songs, including Hozier's "Take me to Church", Justin Bieber's "Sorry", Disney songs, and many more.

The TASIS Speech & Debate Squad has many reasons to be confident of their prospects at the tournament coming up on March 19—not least of which is that, for a second year running, the squad brought back a winning record from the Harvard National Forensic Tournament.

On the evening of March 3, Yale University's Director of International Admissions, Rebekah Westphal, pressed an audience of more than 200 individuals to, "approach the process of admissions very broadly and early on. Think about the universities and the programs, but understand the realities of the admissions landscape to avoid stress."
