Convocation 2015: A Celebration of Community
Posted 28/08/2015 04:01PM

TASIS England students, faculty, and staff joined together this morning to celebrate the beginning of the new school year with a Convocation ceremony.

The ceremony began with a vibrant procession of flags held by student representatives from each grade–every banner marking their graduating year. Celebrating the diverse 50+ nationalities of the TASIS community, other students followed carrying their native country’s flag.

New Headmaster Dr. Hong welcomed everyone with an inspiring speech about the upcoming year, “I feel so fortunate to be here to start the new year together with you. I feel very hopeful that we are commencing on a positive note of celebrating and embracing the exceptional global diversity that makes TASIS.” She discussed the many different roles she will play throughout the year as Headmaster, Head of Upper School and mom! “This exceptional opportunity will allow me to really immerse myself in the TASIS community.  You had to move into dorm rooms or move into new homes, unpack shipping crates, jet over to start classes, and make new friends. Like many of you, I am multi-tasking.”

Speakers from Middle and Upper School took to the stage to deliver thoughtful and positive messages about the TASIS experience and the upcoming school year. Middle school student Spencer M. discussed his fond memories of his first day at TASIS and spoke about the strength of our community, “What binds TASIS together as a community is something bigger than any one individual trait. We come together as a wonderful community of students, teachers, and parents because of our shared eagerness to learn and to help other people learn.”

Upper School student Alyssa S. spoke about milestones, both for her class this year as they prepare to graduate, and for the school as it reaches its 40th anniversary. “The TASIS experience enables us to reach many of these milestones and move from one to the next. It offers us an international experience like no other and endless opportunities for exceptional academic success.” Alyssa finished her speech with a spirited message, “I hope this year at TASIS proves to be a milestone year in each of your lives. Let’s do our best to make it a great one.”

To conclude the joyous ceremony, everyone rose to their feet to sing the TASIS Alma Mater.
