Mike Bodie, Class of 2007, recently returned to campus to work with the IB Theatre Arts Year 1/Ensemble class. A working actor, he shared his experiences in studying and pursing a career in theatre. Mike performed on the TASIS stage for seven years and took on roles such as Bert Healy in Annie to Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof to Emile de Becque in South Pacific. He said that he feels thankful for the opportunities made available to him at TASIS England, and that he was given the chance and space to take risks and try new experiences to challenge himself and grow as a performer.
Brendan Harris, Head of Drama, commented, "I remember Mike as a particularly generous performer when he was at school. He worked well with his fellow actors and always offered supportive words throughout rehearsal. It was nice to see how that quality has developed over the years. He was fantastic with my IB Year 1 students. He helped them with general advice on their current performance project and also lead them through some really useful theatre exercises."
Saki ’16, responded, "Having Mike come and work with us in class was an invaluable experience! Many of us are considering careers in the theatre, so it was very helpful to get advice and insights from someone who is actually in the business. Through games, Mike taught us the key to improvisation: Listening, Accepting and Committing. As we start to work on our mock IB devising project, I will definitely be referring back to the things he taught us today."
