Mrs. Devoir-Moore and Mrs. McAllister took pre-kindergarten classes on a trip to the National Gallery in London as part of their study of artists and colors.
The children viewed paintings by Renoir, Degas, Monet, Van Gogh, and many others while at the gallery. They were very excited to see paintings that they recognized from the book Katie’s Picture Show by James Mayhew in which a little girl jumps in and out of paintings!
After a break in Trafalgar Square to see the lions, fountains, and Nelson’s column, Pre-K returned to the gallery for a guided tour of The Large Dort by Cuyp and The Graham Children by Hogarth. The guide helped the children to look carefully at the details of the paintings through questioning techniques and asked them to “step in” to the painting to make it come alive. Students had a fantastic day out!
