TASIS England Board of Directors with Mr. Rigg (third from right)
The formal dedication of the Rigg Library took place in the newly refurbished TASIS Upper School Library on Monday, May 14th. This new center for academic study and research is dedicated to Lyle Rigg, TASIS Headmaster 1984-1998 and who served as interim head from 2009 to 2010. Fondly known for his inspired and steady leadership, humor, warmth, and compassion, Mr. Rigg traveled from his current home in the United States for the occasion. His wife, the author Sharon Creech, was on a book tour and not able to attend, but Mr. Rigg’s daughter and granddaughter joined him for the celebration.
The dedication included remarks by Lisa Smith, Chair of the TASIS England Board of Directors, Fernando Gonzalez, Chair of the Campus Development Committee and member of the Board of Directors, Michael McBrien, Headmaster, and Mr. Rigg, himself, who offered his relief that the vowel in his name is not “a” (Ragg)or “u” (Rugg)—which would not offer an ideal combination in conjunction with “Library.”
Originally a chapel, the new Library served as the School’s theatre for many years, and most recently housed the Admissions Office. High vaulted ceilings sparkle with gilt accents, wood paneling, and arched woodwork now form a beautiful setting for the Upper School’s inspirational center for academic study and research.
