Mr. McBrien and Dr. Lander Open the Beatrix Potter Garden
Members of the Fleming Garden Committee invited the TASIS community and local Thorpe residents to celebrate the completion of the Beatrix Potter Garden, a replica of Mr. McGregor’s garden.
The enchanting space has been developed by students and faculty over the past year, and has transformed a dull patch of soil into Mr. McGregor’s garden from Beatrix Potter. The garden is the brainchild of Lower School Librarian, Mr. Kominsky, who was inspired while visiting the Fleming Garden one day, “I thought it would be wonderful to create a replica of the famous and beloved Beatrix Potter Garden, where lower school students could read books and learn outside while sitting in Mr. McGregor’s Garden.”
Environmental teacher and committee member, Dr. Lander, directed the project and spoke about the inspirational storybook space, “this area has been lovingly tended by students and will be visited often as part of their TASIS educational experience. I look forward to seeing the vegetables grow and the plants mature and hope that future generations of students will come here for many years to come.”
Other new additions to the Fleming garden include a beehive, a wildlife pond, seven new fruit trees, and a new resident, Guy the hedgehog!
The garden is a replica of Mr. McGregor's Garden from the Tale of Peter Rabbit.
